In a 240-187 tally, the House of Representatives voted to condemn Donald Trump’s tweets towards four congresswomen as racist.
Republicans tried to clap back when they made the attempt to hold Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s words out of order when she said that Trump’s tweets towards Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib were racist. Which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense on the GOP side of things considering this is what this particular vote was all about.
“References to racial or other discrimination on the part of the President are not in order,” according to House precedent. (via Axios)
In the end, Republicans fell short of their attempt to strike Pelosi’s words from the record while the House essentially gave Trump a slap on the wrist for his social media actions. All House Democrats voted in favor of the condemnation along with four Republicans, Reps. Will Hurd, Fred Upton, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Susan Brooks. Independent Justin Amash also voted in favor of the condemnation.
