Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has resigned. Not because she is and always has been in over her head and didn’t deserve the job in the first place but because of Donald Trump’s rhetoric that fueled the “unconscionable” insurrection of the U.S. Capitol by domestic terrorists that support the POTUS.
“We should be highlighting and celebrating your Administration’s many accomplishments on behalf of the American people,” DeVos wrote.
“Instead, we are left to clean up the mess caused by violent protestors overrunning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people’s business,” she wrote.
“That behavior was unconscionable for our country,” DeVos wrote. “There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is an inflection point for me.”
She also noted that “impressionable children are watching from all of this, and they are learning from us.”
“I believe we each have a moral obligation to exercise good [judgment] and model the behavior we hope they would emulate,” DeVos wrote. “They must know from us that America is greather than what transpired yesterday.”
She said she was resigning “in support of the oath I took to our Constitution, our people, and our freedoms.”

DeVos becomes the second cabinet member to submit their resignation in the wake of the events that happened at the Capitol on Wednesday. Transportation Secretary and the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Elaine Chao submitted her resignation earlier today also citing Trump’s actions stating, “Yesterday, our country experienced a traumatic and entirely avoidable event as supporters of the President stormed the Capitol building following a rally he addressed.”
Nobody should be giving kudos though to anyone jumping off the sinking ship now, especially considering they’re just now having some sort of moral clarity. This Donald Trump is the same bigot who invoked violence back when each and every one of these rats fleeing the sinking ship originally accepted their jobs within the Trump administration.
Betsy DeVos can get fucked forever.
