The late Carrie Fisher will make an appearance in the newest Star Wars film Episode iX using unreleased footage from 2015’s ‘Force Awakens’ according to Lucasfilm who also unveiled the film’s upcoming cast.
Via the Hollywood Reporter:
Returning cast members for the J.J. Abrams film include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. New stars joining the cast include Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. They will be joined by Star Wars actors including Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3P0), and Billy Dee Williams, appearing as Lando Calrissian in a live action film the first time since 1983’s Return of the Jedi. Absent from the cast list Lucasfilm released Friday is Keri Russell, who was reported to be in talks earlier this month.
“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” Abrams said in a statement. “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
As you can see, Billy D. Williams will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian, however it seems doubtful given the way Fisher will be implemented into the film that Leia and Lando will appear in any scenes together. That in and of itself has been one of the biggest fuck ups of this new franchise which is not having Han Solo, Leia , Lando or Luke appearing in any scenes where they’re all together. And sadly giving the death of Fisher in December 2016, Solo’s death in “The Force Awakens” and Luke’s death in “The Last Jedi” Star Wars fans will probably never see it happen, at least not without some CGI.
