Donald Trump isn’t a stranger to spreading asinine false claims to stoke fear and/or pour gasoline on his base to get them all in some ludicrous frenzy, since it seems like they’ll believe anything he tells them.
Saturday night was no different as Number 45 presented the crowd with the newly polished piece of shit he was able to pull out of his ass which was the claim that babies are being “executed” after birth.

What Trump is very loosely referring to is a bill that was taken up earlier this year called the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act” that stated, “any infant born alive after an abortion or within a hospital, clinic, or other facility has the same claim to the protection of the law that would arise for any newborn, or for any person who comes to a hospital, clinic, or other facility for screening and treatment or otherwise becomes a patient within its care.”
The bill continues by stating that anyone (except for the mother) that “intentionally performs or attempts to perform an overt act that kills a child born alive” can be prosecuted for “intentionally killing or attempting to kill a human being.”
The bill fell well short of the 60 votes needed to pass in the Senate (53/60) which was due not because Democrats like to “execute” newborn babies but because there’s already laws on the books that protect newborns like the “Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act” and the “Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002.”
If anything this was an attempt by the right to politicize an already sensitive subject for anyone involved. Namely it forced the hand of democrats to cast a hard vote for a bill that was incredibly misleading and hyperbolic in an effort to score cheap campaign points as Donald Trump did last night. It was also yet another attempt by the GOP to skirt right to choose laws already in place and further impose their will on women’s health issues.
