Donald Trump pauses military aid to Ukraine after performative White House incident šŸ›‘šŸŽ¬

U.S. President Donald Trump halted military aid to Ukraine after a contentious and very performative White House meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky last week.

The halt in aid, which came after Trump held aĀ series of meetingsĀ with top national security officials at the White House, could have dire effect on Ukraineā€™s war-fighting abilities, officials and analysts said. It will remain in place until Trump determines Zelensky has made a commitment to seeking peace talks, one official said, essentially forcing Ukraine to a negotiating table by threatening further losses on the battlefield.

ā€œThe president has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution,ā€ the White House official said.

Trump accused Zelensky of ā€œnot wanting peaceā€ as Trump administration officials did their own media rounds accusing the Ukraining President of not being appreciative of the help the United States has provided Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia. Despite the accusations, Zelensky has been on record several times thanking the United States for its help in supplying money and arms.

People shouldnā€™t be fooled by Trumpā€™s actions here when it comes to peace in Ukraine, as the U.S. President is still very much engaging in brutal imperialism. Currently, the United States is pressing Ukraine to sign a mineral rights deal that will enable the U.S. to extract vital natural resources from the war-torn country in exchange for the United States to further pursue a peace deal between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump defended the minerals deal as a payment to the United States for its ongoing support of Ukraine despite much of the arms deals heading to the European nation largely benefitting the American military-industrial complex.

The war needs to end, Trump is right about that, while Zelensky needs to start pushing for that instead of more arms. However, peace needs to be obtained with the safety of Ukraineā€™s people and the sovereignty of their nation.
