Donald Trump advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner continues to catch the attention of the FBI in their ongoing probe into possible connections between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.
According to U.S. officials, Kushner is believed to have “significant information” that would assist in the Russian investigation. To be clear however, the scrutiny at this time for Kushner isn’t any indication that the FBI is going to charge him with a crime or that he’s the target of the probe. If anything Kushner could potentially be a witness when it comes to any Russian connections with the Donald Trump campaign which he’s been very close to.
Via NBC News:
The FBI’s scrutiny of Kushner places the bureau’s sprawling counterintelligence and criminal investigation not only on the doorstep of the White House, but the Trump family circle. The Washington Post first reported last week that a senior White House official close to Trump was a “person of interest,” but did not name the person. The term “person of interest” has no legal meaning.
The officials said Kushner is in a different category from former Trump aides Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn, who are formally considered subjects of the investigation. According to the Justice Department’s U.S. Attorneys’ Manual, “A ‘subject’ of an investigation is a person whose conduct is within the scope of the grand jury’s investigation.”
Kushner does have a connection to Russia himself. The Trump advisor previously met with the Russian ambassador during the election which was first reported back in March. However it’s unclear if that’s playing any type of roll in this latest scrutiny for Mr. Ivanka Trump. And speaking of Ivanka, both left the Donald Trump Middle East/European Tour early to head back to Washington which the White House claims was pre scheduled but… their timing is impeccable considering the circumstances.
