The Donald Trump campaign and now White House’s connections to Russia keep unraveling Thursday night just hours after Russian ties with attorney general Jeff Sessions surfaced.
A White House official told the New York Times that Jared Kushner and former national security advisor Michael Flynn met with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak at Trump Tower back in December. Obviously well after the election in early November but still well before Donald Trump was to be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States on January 20th.
As far as the meeting goes it’s fairly common for transition officials like Kushner and Flynn to meet with foreign governments, something the New York Times points out. However meetings between the Trump campaign and Russian officials have become much more noteworthy in the FBI’s investigation into the Kremlin hacking the presidential election and any potential ties with Trump officials. Not to mention it was around December that President Obama and his administration was looking into that same Russian meddling into the election.
What could be even more important when it comes to Kushner is the closeness he has to his father-in-law and the possibilities Donald Trump himself were in on these meetings with the Russians.
In any sense the connection between Trump officials and the Kremlin continue to grow.
