Verne Troyer, the actor who found mainstream fame playing Mini-Me in the “Austin Powers” franchise has died. He was 49-years-old.
According to Troyer’s family, the actor was on some kind of life support after being taken to the hospital earlier in the month. Although it’s unclear why exactly Troyer was on life support his original trip to the hospital was a result of police being called to his home after reportedly being drunk and suicidal. Aside from his recent struggles, Troyer had a history of alcoholism and was in and out of rehab from time-to-time.
Born with achondroplasia dwarfism, Troyer was just 2-foot-8 but used his small stature to find a place in Hollywood. His acting career started in 1994 as a stunt double for Baby Bink in “Baby’s Day Out” before landing minor roles in “Men in Black” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”. His huge break however came in 1999 when he starred alongside Mike Myers in the blockbuster hit “Austin Powers, the Spy who Shagged Me”.
