Prince Rogers Nelson, otherwise known as Prince has died according to TMZ who first reported the news this afternoon. He was 57 years old.
Initial reports first indicated that police responded to a death at the estate of Prince in Minnesota around 9:43 am local time. Family members later confirmed to the Associated Press that it indeed was Prince who passed at the Estate. At this time police do not suspect foul play.
Last week, Prince’s private jet had to conduct an emergency landing in Illinois due to the pop superstar’s health. Prince later announced that he was suffering from the flu and resting at his home. Remarkably though the very next day at a concert Prince told his fans to ‘wait a few days before you waste any prayers’.
Often regarded as one of the greatest musicians and performers of all time, Prince was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2004. He’s produced a treasure trove of hits, won seven Grammy Awards, sold over 100 million records and even won an Academy Award for the best song score in ‘Purple Rain’ back in 1985.
And even despite the accolades and insanely productive career the guy still may have been underrated. Prince could really do it all musically.
