So Spider-Man is staying in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after all.
Friday, Disney and Sony announced a deal that would keep Spider-Man in the MCU after the two companies previously failed to come to a deal regarding profit sharing.
According to the deal, Disney will receive 25 percent of Spider-Man 3 profits which will see Tom Holland reprise the role in the next upcoming stand-alone Spidey film set to hit theaters in 2021. The deal will also enable Holland’s Spider-Man to appear in at least one more MCU film feature film so the hope of seeing some Spider-Man/Wolverine movie is still alive.
Anyways, aside from receiving 25-percent of the profits from Spider-Man 3, Disney will also be responsible for responsible for forking over the cash to pay for roughly a quarter of the production costs.
Last month, people lost their shit (and rightfully so) when two giant media conglomerates couldn’t originally settle their dick measuring contest over a creative franchise that they had zero to do with its inception begin with. Disney originally wanted 50 percent of the profits of the third Spider-Man film while Sony apparently told them to fuck off. So I guess given what was detailed in today’s announcement, Sony’s measure came out on top, this time, until the two sides can think of another way to essentially fuck over the fans.
