With 40,000 people confirmed dead in Gaza since October 7, 2023, we still seem no closer to a ceasefire in the region as Israel continues to indiscriminately bomb the strip with complete and total impunity from the international community. In fact, that 40,000 number is merely just an estimate at this point when you consider the 40K is based on bodies the Health Ministry has been able to physically account for while not taking into consideration the vast numbers of victims still under the rubble or in the hands of the Israeli occupation.
Going beyond the headline though, you’ll find that Hamas rejected the deal given it would have Israel retain a large portion of northern Gaza while also retaining a great deal of military control over the strip. Additionally, it would also prevent residents from returning to their homes in northern Gaza. This all isn’t even taking into account Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu actively sabotaging the peace process by repeatedly changing the terms of the deal and murdering negotiators, accusations his own ministers have even claimed.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in Tel Aviv over the weekend, his ninth trip to Israel since October in what is being described as another mission to broker a “ceasefire”. Ironically enough though as Blinken visits, Israel shows no signs of letting up their merciless bombing campaigns using U.S.-made weapons.
