Off-hand it seems like a worthwhile issue for the Federal Government to take up considering what happened during the 2016 election. Not to mention big tech guidelines on harvesting personal date is something the everyday user themselves can’t help to avoid considering the importance big tech has become in the everyday lives of the American public.

Recently the FBI has been soliciting proposals from outside vendors to pull swaths of public information from social media sites according to the Wall Street Journal. The report states that the request was meant to “mitigate multifaceted threats, while ensuring all privacy and civil liberties compliance requirements are met.” Furthermore, according to the Washington Post, the Trump Administration has pressured social media platforms to cooperate with the Government to help flag potential mass shooters.
However, given the POTUS’ most recent statement when it comes to protesting fascism and the general history when it comes to big government obtaining personal information on citizens (especially the U.S. Government), that information is often times used for political purposes or revenge.
