After a drone strike injured three US troops, President Joe Biden authorized further airstrikes in Iraq targeting Iranian-backed militias in the region.
According to National Security Council spokesperson, Adrienne Watson, a U.S. troop suffered critical injuries in an attack that took place on Monday. The attack was claimed by the Iranian-backed resistance group Kataib Hezbollah, and its affiliated groups, which work under an umbrella of Iranian-backed militants. The attack was carried out using a one-way attack drone.
The United States has been on a higher sense of alert in the Middle East as Israel continues to launch their U.S.-backed genocide on Gaza while continuing to crack down on their brutal occupation within the West Bank. Tensions continued to escalate on Monday when an Israeli airstrike on the outskirts of the Syrian capital of Damascus killed Razi Mousavi, a top Iranian general who was also close to Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
Soleimani was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Iraq back in January of 2020.
