United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May has given conservative members of Parliament and added caveat to supporting her Brexit proposal, back it and I’m gone.
May made the announcement Wednesday that she would in fact resign as prime minster if the remaining conservative members of Parliament who aren’t supporting her Brexit plan begin to ‘fall in line’.
Via the Independent:
Theresa May has told Conservative MPs at a closed meeting that she will step aside as prime minister after she has delivered Brexit.
She pledged to quit before the next stage of negotiations with the EU, but only if Tories who have so far refused to back her deal finally fall into line.
The “emotional” announcement at the private gathering of Conservative MPs means that if her deal is approved, it would be a new prime minister that would decide how to approach talks on the UK’s future relations with the EU.
May added that she would leave her post earlier than expected “in order to secure a smooth and orderly Brexit” however a firm date has yet to be determined. However early reports have already started to indicated that if May’s Brexit plan does in fact succeed to go through a leadership contest would begin on May 22nd which marks the day Britain’s European Membership comes to an end.
