Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro died late Friday according to Cuban state media. He was 90 years old.
Castro was seen as a revolutionary by some, especially far-left communist regimes in Latin America who were strong opponents to American imperialism. Good or bad, Castro shaped Cuba into his own image and was successful in some regard to bringing socialized healthcare and education to his people.
Meanwhile on the other hand Castro was also seen as a brutal dictator of an authoritarian regime that jailed political opponents, suppressed the economy and promoted nuclear war.
Despite mourning of some, many within the Little Havana neighborhoods of Miami were celebrating into the early morning hours Saturday in the wake of Castro’s death.
